‘You've either got or you haven't got style. Cringletie House has got more than its fair share of the stuff’ Bill Clapperton, Edinburgh Evening News
Splendidly romantic - and the food comes highly recommended
Cringletie House is a romantically splendid Victorian baronial mansion set in 28 acres of gardens and woodland in the beautiful rolling hills of the Scottish Borders. Just half an hour's drive from Edinburgh, this beautiful hotel's location makes it a convenient base for visiting the city but returning to peaceful rural surroundings. Originally opened as a hotel in 1966 and fresh from a total renovation in the spring of 2004, Cringletie retains the atmosphere of a private country house whilst catering fully for all guests, including a full wheelchair access and a lift. Outside, there's a lovely 17th-century walled garden, which provides Cringletie's kitchen with a tempting variety of homegrown produce, no doubt contributing to the excellent ratings received by the chef, Paul Hart. Whether a traditional Sunday lunch in the Sutherland Room or the superb seven-course gourmet tasting menu (the contents of which are always a surprise, as the chef chooses the best local produce available that day!), dining is sure to delight, and all is accompanied by a well-chosen wine list. Outdoors, there's much to do, from a world of beautiful walks (and the hotel can plan a picnic for you!) to noteable golfing, cycling and fishing.
